The review

The third book in Mukherjees informal trilogy (Cancer, Gene, Cell). It tracks the discovery of the cell from Hooke and Leeuwenhoek to the modern era of cellular engineering — CAR-T immunotherapy, stem cell therapies, organoids, and the techniques that let us redesign biology at the unit level.

If The Emperor of All Maladies is about a disease, and The Gene is about a code, The Song of the Cell is about the substrate everything else runs on. Worth reading slowly.
